7 Strategies for Planting Healthy, Reproducing Churches
Building Churches That Last
Church planting has always been at the heart of the Converge movement. As part of Converge USA, we are connected to a nationwide network of leaders who are learning from one another how to plant churches that are healthy, sustainable, and positioned to reproduce.
We don’t believe church planting is something to be figured out in isolation. Instead, we draw from decades of collective experience across the country, refining practices that help new churches take root and grow with long-term impact in mind. These seven strategies form the foundation of how we approach church planting within Converge.
We don’t believe church planting is something to be figured out in isolation. Instead, we draw from decades of collective experience across the country, refining practices that help new churches take root and grow with long-term impact in mind. These seven strategies form the foundation of how we approach church planting within Converge.
1. A Strong Spiritual Foundation
At the center of everything we do is a dependence on God. Church planting begins and ends with spiritual empowerment. Scripture, prayer, and discernment are woven into every step of the process, reminding us that lasting fruit comes from God, not our own effort.
2. Recruiting the Right Leaders
Healthy churches begin with healthy leaders. We intentionally seek men and women who sense a call to launch new churches and who desire to be part of something bigger than their own local context. These leaders are not only focused on starting a church but are open to participating in regional and global movements of multiplication.
3. Thoughtful Assessment
Discernment matters. Through a careful assessment process, we evaluate a leader’s calling, character, gifting, and readiness for ministry. This objective assessment helps bring clarity, affirmation, and wise next steps for both the planter and the churches supporting them.
4. Ongoing Training
Church planting happens in a constantly changing ministry landscape. We provide training opportunities that equip leaders with current strategies, practical tools, and up-to-date insights for effective ministry. These environments are designed to sharpen skills and foster learning alongside other leaders on a similar journey.
5. Intentional Coaching
Every planter needs someone walking with them. Coaching is a vital part of our approach, ensuring each planter has access to a trained coach who offers spiritual guidance, accountability, emotional support, and practical wisdom. Coaching creates space for encouragement, problem-solving, and growth in both leadership and personal health.
6. Sustainable Funding
Financial support is an important part of church planting. We work to develop funding strategies that strengthen the broader movement while also helping individual leaders build sustainable personal support. Thoughtful funding allows planters to focus on the work God has called them to without carrying unnecessary financial pressure alone.
7. Strategic Resourcing
No planter should have to reinvent the wheel. We provide proven, up-to-date resources designed to help leaders serve their communities effectively and make a meaningful kingdom impact. These resources are continually evaluated and improved to meet real ministry needs.
A Continual Commitment to Growth
Converge Rocky Mountain is constantly refining these seven strategies as we pursue our vision of expanding God’s redemptive work through new churches. Our desire is not simply to plant churches, but to see churches planted that are healthy, resilient, and ready to reproduce, so that more people can encounter Jesus through the local church.
