Who I Am “In Christ”

Who I Am “In Christ”

One of the most common struggles believers face is not a lack of faith, but confusion about identity. When we place our faith in Jesus Christ, everything changes. God places His Spirit within us, giving us a new identity that is no longer rooted in our past, our performance, or our failures, but in Christ alone.
This truth is woven throughout Scripture and is powerfully articulated in the work of Neil Anderson in The Bondage Breaker. Especially in Paul’s letters, we are reminded that freedom begins with knowing who we are in Christ.

My Identity in Christ

Because of Jesus:
  • I am a saint (Ephesians 1:1)
  • I am blessed with every spiritual blessing (Ephesians 1:3)
  • I am holy, blameless, and covered with God’s love (Ephesians 1:4)
  • I am chosen (Ephesians 1:4, 11)
  • I am God’s child (Ephesians 1:5)
  • I am redeemed and forgiven (Ephesians 1:7)
  • I am marked by the Holy Spirit who lives in me (Ephesians 1:13)
  • I am God’s masterpiece, created with purpose (Ephesians 2:10)
  • I am brought near to God through Christ (Ephesians 2:13)
  • I can approach God with freedom and confidence (Ephesians 3:12)
  • I am a minister, equipped to build up others (Ephesians 4:12)
  • I am a member of Christ’s Body, the Church (Ephesians 5:29–30)
  • I am declared not guilty (Romans 3:24)
  • I am no longer condemned (Romans 8:1)
  • I am set free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2)
  • I am born of God, and the evil one has no claim on me (1 John 5:18)
  • I am a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17)
  • I am Christ’s friend (John 15:15)
  • I am complete in Him (Colossians 2:10)
These are not aspirational statements. They are present realities for every believer. This is who God says you are.

Living From This Identity

When you know who you are in Christ, everything begins to shift. Shame loses its grip. Fear no longer has the final word. Obedience becomes an act of freedom, not obligation. The Christian life is not about striving to become someone new, but learning to live from the identity you have already been given.

Paul captures this longing in his prayer for the church:

“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and His incomparably great power for us who believe.”
— Ephesians 1:17–19

Knowing who you are in Christ is foundational to spiritual freedom. When you believe the truth, you are able to walk in the life Christ has already secured for you.

You are in Christ. And that changes everything.
